Spartan Singers
The SPHS Vocal Department offers many different classes and opportunities for growth in music and in life. Some of our featured groups are:
Mastery Chorus - Our upperclassmen are involved in an intensive study of sight singing and choral work. This group travels to GMEA's Large Group Performing Evaluation in the Spring for competition.
Beginning Chorus - Our newest members of Spartan Singers start here and are trained in sight singing and choral works including pop, musical theatre and art works. Beginning Chorus travels to GMEA's Large Group Performing Evaluation in the Spring.
Show Choir - Our show choir is an auditioned group of singers and dancers that must be able to sight sing, sing independently in a small group and have basic dance abilities. Our Show Choir captains this year are Mya Walker and Hailey Inman. Our choreographers are Chloe Strickland, Macey Jurado, Hailey Inman and Kaitlyn Harris.
Men's Ensemble - The Men's Ensemble is a class that meets with the show choir. The Men's Ensemble works on many "men only" pieces and helps with show choir as the "muscle". Men that are included in the show choir/men's ensemble are auditioned and must be able to lift for the choreography required in show choir performance.
Musical Theatre - Our Musical Theatre classes are trained in basic sight singing, independent and ensemble vocal performance, theatrical techniques for performance and they put together a Jr. show each year. This year, Macey Jurado, Madi Lockridge, Graham Segrest and Steven Callis are starring in this year's production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie, jr." on November 12th at 7PM. We also have many talented choreographers that are writing choreophraphy for the show: Madi Lockridge, Jaycie Dunbar, Alyssa Smith, Kaitlyne Lester, Kayley Smith, Gabby Story and Graham Segrest. It is recommended that students take a theatre class with Mr. Brice before attempting Beginning Musical Theatre. Advanced Musical Theatre is audition only.
Alpha Delta Omega - Our Glee Club is our premier a cappella group that meets after school throughout the year. Our Glee Club will travel to the West Georgia Show Choir Invitational at North Paulding in March.
Gospella - Gospella is a gospel a cappella group that meets after glee club. This group focuses on sacred a cappella music. Gabby Story and Eva Richardson are our captains for this group. This group is audition only.
Tri-M Music Honor Society - The Tri-M Music Honor Society is open to ALL music students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher in academic classes and 3.0 in music classes. Our Tri-M Music Honor Society will begin meeting this spring and will be doing volunteer work in the community. Dues for this Honor Society will be announced at our first meeting as well as plans for volunteer work and performance for our surrounding area in musical arts. Tri-M Music Honor Society is focused on Music Education and its benefits to student achievement and growth.
